Pastor Barber Calls People of All Faiths to Work Together to Address Economic Inequity

“To have this level of inequality existing is a violation of our deepest moral, constitutional and religious values.” —Rev. Barber

Rev. William Barber

Rev. William Barber has spoken out against Christian nationalism, which he believes is a dangerous theology that is incompatible with the teachings of Jesus. He argues that Christian nationalism can lead to widespread discrimination, as it divides people into categories of “us” and “them.” He believes that religious faith should be used to bring people together, not to tear them apart, and is calling on people of all faiths to work together to create a more equitable and just society.

He draws attention to the economic injustice that exists in the US, noting that the wealthiest 1% of the population holds 40% of the nation’s wealth while the bottom 40% owns only 0.3%. He believes that it is time for people of faith to stand up and fight for economic justice, to ensure that those who are struggling are provided with the resources and support they need to live healthy and productive lives.
