(UnidosUS) —
Our priority is to protect, defend and advance our community
The start of 2025 has been deeply disorienting and destabilizing for our community, as I imagine it has been for many of you, our esteemed donors who are part of our familia. The new administration’s flurry of executive orders and actions has created confusion and fear.
In particular, the uncertainty created due to the proposed federal funding freezes and related shifts in the corporate sector in response to the administration’s actions highlights the crucial role UnidosUS and its Affiliates play in supporting the Latino community.
Potential funding threats from both the government and the private sector jeopardize our ability to advance our work, as well the work of our Affiliates, in providing timely and essential services like health care, Head Start and early childhood education, job training and housing counseling. Some of these services are made possible through UnidosUS’s federally funded projects. Despite court interventions, we know that actions affecting funding will continue to fuel uncertainty, making your invaluable support more important than ever.
Guided by our strategy and our values, UnidosUS is laser-focused on navigating these unchartered waters. Our overarching goal for 2025 is to protect, defend and advance the Latino community. To do this most effectively, we will: strengthen our institutional resilience; partner with Affiliates to protect families from harmful actions and policies; safeguard historic gains (e.g., nutrition assistance, civil rights); and promote solutions that advance economic mobility.
Organizationally, we will be tested to constantly assess and prioritize threats while adapting to achieve our goals. But with you by our side, we can maintain a strong and resilient institution, advance the economic well-being of the community and lead efforts not only to mitigate the harmful effects of the new administration’s agenda on Latinos, but also to create new opportunities.
While there is no doubt that we are facing headwinds, knowing we have you — our staunch supporters — and our Affiliate Network to partner with, we remain hopeful and steadfast in our commitment to our Latino families and community.
Thank you and adelante,
Janet Murguía
President and CEO
